One step away from dream places

Some places to visit within walking distance from the “B&B Al Mare Sorrento”. We will be happy to recommend this and much more.

Nerano - Bay of Ieranto

From the Greek 'Ieros, sacred place, the Bay of Ieranto creeps into a tongue of land that stretches from the seaside village of Nerano almost to touch Capri, on which the Greeks raised the temple of Athena to which later the Romans superimposed dedicated to Minerva.

Today Ieranto is owned by the FAI, the national environment fund, which often organizes guided tours. Access to the area is always free. The Bay of Ieranto opens on the southern coast of the Sorrento Peninsula. Punta Capitello separates the two areas that compose the inlet: the Baia Grande and the Baia Piccola. The area of property of the FAI is, is also, divided into two distinct parts: the rocky and steep that closes with Punta Campanella, and that of the promontory from the sloping slopes, which extends from the summit of Montalto, to end towards the sea open to the southwest with Punta Penna.

Punta Campanella

The marine protected natural area of Punta Campanella is a marine reserve established in 1997. It is located in the northern part of the Gulf of Salerno, and covers an area of over 1500 hectares in the sea, between the municipality of Massa Lubrense and the municipality of Positano. Punta Campanella was called by the Greek promontory Ateneo, who built a temple to the goddess Athena whose mythical foundation is attributed to Ulysses. The Romans practiced the cult of the goddess Minerva on the site. According to a legend, pirates, landed in Sorrento, had stolen everything from the church of Sant'Antonino Abbot, even the bells. When the pirates, who were escaping, were in Punta Campanella (according to tradition on February 14, Valentine's Day), they were seized by a storm, which sank the ship. It is also said that every year, on Valentine's Day, the stolen bell, which gave its name to the peak, tolls from the bottom of the sea.

Capri

The island of Capri is, unlike the nearby Ischia and Procida, of karst origin. Initially it was joined to the Sorrento peninsula, except that it was later partly submerged by the sea and then separated from the mainland, where today is the Strait of Bocca Piccola. Capri has a complex morphological structure, with peaks of medium height (Monte Solaro 589 m and Monte Tiberio 334 m) and vast internal plateaus, among which the main one is called "Anacapri". It is at the twenty-first place among the Italian islands in order of magnitude. It is possible to admire the island both by motorbike and by bus and you can choose different beaches where you can relax and have lunch. Do not miss the Grotta Azzurra, Monte Solaro and Villa Jovis.

Amalfi Coast

The Amalfi Coast is a stretch of 50 kilometers of coastline south of the Sorrento Peninsula, characterized by steep cliffs and a jagged coastline dotted with small beaches and pastel-colored fishing villages. The coastal road between the port city of Salerno and the rocky ridge of Sorrento runs between sumptuous villas, terraced vineyards and lemon groves overlooking the sea. You will be able to stop in several cities that compose it as: Amalfi, Ravello, Maiori, Minori, Praiano and Positano. Each of these places deserves a visit as rich in both natural and architectural beauties.
